PostSubject: Going on vacation a week into P3   Wed May 18 2011, 14:38

We're driving from Ohio to Colorado to Utah for a big family vacation this June and it will be the first two weeks of P3. Needless to say, I'm a little nervous. For the ride out (2 days) I do plan to pack what I can in the cooler (veggies & fruit), but I'm a little nervous about the proteins. The last thing I need to do is poison myself ;). Do you think canned white tuna packed in water will set me back too much? I know it's not on the original protocol, but everything I've read says it's because it was packed in oil prior.

I know that DH and the kids will want to eat at a few restaurants on the way. Any suggestions for me? Is a hamburger patty or grilled chicken from say McD's or Wendy's okay? I'm fine with not indulging, I just need to be prepared.

Help a sista out?

Protein is probably the most important thing to make sure you are getting in P3, so plan well! I would suggest hard boiled eggs which are easily portable, low sodium lunch meats, and the canned tuna packed in water is great! Also, the best thing to order at a fast food place is a salad with grilled chicken. One of the best I have found is the Cobb salad at Wendy's that comes with an avocado ranch. Low carb and full of protein & a little fiber to keep you regular :-) Also, Subway can make any sub into a salad-- just ask! Make sure you take your scale with you and weigh every day! It's so important to stabilize so that you can keep the weight off that you worked so hard to lose!

Thanks Sarah!

I hadn't even considered hard boiled eggs. I LOVE hard boiled eggs! And thanks for the salad suggestions!

Just so I'm clear, it's fine to mix vegetables in P3?

Yes, absolutely! I found this post here really helpful in selecting veggies:

The poster gives a long list going from lowest carbs to highest which is incredibly helpful!
