PostSubject: Need some serious Vinegar help...   Sat Sep 18 2010, 21:18

I HATE the smell of Apple Cidar Vinegar....Can't we use normal vinegar? If not, why does it have to be the apple cidar variety?

If it must be Apple Cidar vinegar, is there a brand/variety that doesn't smell so terribly bad?

thanks in advance!

Get the Bragg organic brand. It still smells like vinegar, but it IS what it IS....vinegar! I'll tell you one thing, the taste is worlds above the Heinz or other brands of apple cider vinegar. And, yes, it needs to be apple cider vinegar. There are worlds of things the stuff is good far....it's sort of a miracle elixir.

I tell you what makes a great quick dressing. ACV with water and a dropper full of stevia. Makes all the difference in the world. I don't really measure since I use a little bottle and eyeball it. Try a little stevia in it!

I'm actually trying to find a way to make a marinade for some chicken..... I just can't find any vinegar that wouldn't stink up the chicken...

why does it have to be Apple cider vinegar as opposed to just vinegar?

I reported that post as soon as it hit. Must be a spammer. I don't know if they did anything though.

I do know what you are talking about with the smell. I notice if I use the ACV for salad dressing everything is fine. If I use it with cooked meat or veggies, my house stinks. I would limit its use to cold dishes.

Basalmic vinegar actually does have calories and carbs so you want to avoid it. ACV has the health and nutritional benefits that the red and white don't necessary have. Another difference calories aside comes from the processing. Many of white vinegars of the distilled variety found on the market are actually processed with toxic solvents. It is great to clean your windows or kill weeds but not so good to consume.

If you prefer a white, I would get a nondistilled variety. I know that Heinz makes one that is pretty inexpensive.

I didn't know that about the white vinegar, either. I've used balsamic vinegar and seen others use it as well with no ill effects. True it has carbs and calories but as long as you're counting and not going too high, it should be fine, right? Or am I wrong? You do have to be careful though, because some manufacturers also add sugar.
