PostSubject: Dizzy on Phase 2   Wed Sep 08 2010, 20:41

I'm on my 4th day of the VLCD of P2 and I've been dizzy the last 2-3 days. Has anyone else had this happen to them? When I get up to walk I get dizzy and feel like I'm staggering around.

It could be that your body is detoxing.

However, if the dizzy spells are too much for you, first look at what you are eating. Are you takingin sodium/salt? If you are, I would stop taking salt, except for what is naturally occuring in natural foods.

I would also increase your potassium intake. There are a number of topics in this forum about potassium.

Between "Faq" and "Members", select "search" and type in potassium. This will bring up articles about it. This will also help you with those dizzy spells!

you could try breaking up your meals even more and eating mini meals more often. try to get up slowly.

I agree with Sucralose. I did experience a lot dizziness in week one and to a lesser degree week 2. Always between noon and 3 PM. I found that eating my fruit earlier/seperately helped as did eating earlier in general. I eat my "lunch" at 10:30 and my "dinner" at 3:30 or 4. My body seems to be better than way and I have no problem being hungry in the evening.

Hey, Ed --

One other thing to consider,...I've heard that men need more protein than we girls. You should consider upping your calories to 700 for the day, making the additional 200 calories all protein.

I don't know for certain if my source on that is correct, but no one disagreed during that discussion way back when.

You've already been given some good advice, above.

I don't recall experiencing dizziness in the first round, but in later rounds I would get a little light-headed if I'm bending over (like pulling weeds) then stand up straight. I just make sure I hold the tree or a doorway or a piece of furniture for support, nothing serious, though. I never noticed it occurring early or late during the round, just most of the time.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

I've been eating my 1/2 grapefruit mid-mroning and an apple in the afternoon. I've also tried increasing protein by eating 5 oz of tuna but I'm still experiencing the dizziness. I'll try the potassium next; hopefully its only temporary. I did lose 20 lbs in my first 6 days which is awesome - hopefully it isn't from that.

please!

That IS a dynamite start for the first week! I don't see that the rapid loss would be a direct cause, except to the extent it upsets the balance of things your body is accustomed to. You've got your fruits pretty well balanced. Good luck!

20 lbs in 6 days that is awesome. That brings me to my next question for you. How much water are you taking in? You may have heard the guideline take your current weight and divide by 2 to get the total ounces for the day. If you are losing that fast and consuming tuna which has some sodium in it, you may need to up your water intake a little beyond this formula for good measure due to your rapid weight loss.

Good luck!

I've been trying to drink a gallon of water a day plus the teas.

I started taking the potassium 2 days ago and I am feeling better - not as dizzy as I was! Thanks for all of the advice!
