PostSubject: Super Taster and Stevia   Thu Aug 12 2010, 02:57

Ok, I've bought two flavors of Stevia and I find them disgusting and bitter. I bought Sweetleaf Vanilla Cream and English Toffee. Both times I've used them, the food I put it on was rendered inedible to me. Is there something else I can use?

Michelle,

Stevita makes the best flavored stevia I've found so far. I'm not sure I'd give any brand of stevia a 5-star glowing review, and I've got a stockpile of brands that I hate to throw away but I'm not happy with. Usually gives coffee, tea, etc, a bitter or metallic taste and without any recognizable sweetness.

My main sweetener for tea, etc, is Stevia-In-The-Raw, but recently Wendy said it's not acceptable (although my clinic once approved it). Then again, they approved Truvia, then took it away. On the other hand, I've seen where people endorse SweetLeaf.

I guess it's so highly subjective! I hope you can find something to your liking.

As a possible alternative, I've seen that some people use xylitol or erithritol. The xylitol comes with a warning that it's toxic for dogs, perhaps all animals (I forget,...my worry was the dogs). I have an open bag of erithritol, and it's pretty good!

I use liquid sweetleaf and love the english toffee in my coffee substitute. If it's tasting bitter...you may be using too much of it.
Stevia takes on a bitter flavor when too much is used. Try using less and see if that helps!

Interesting. My doctor's office sells the Sweet Leaf. I have the lemon drop, valencia orange, and vanilla creme. Someone in the office suggested that I buy the toffee flavor to mix with the vanilla. It sounded sickenly sweet to my personal taste so I decided to pass at $15 a bottle. My husband who is not on the diet loves the orange so much that he makes his own orange mocha with a little chocolate milk and the valencia orange in his coffee on the way to work. While I can't have it on my diet, I figure the money we are saving on Starbucks is going towards paying my HCg.

I used SweetLeaf Stevia Clear on strawberries and a few other things, and it tasted pretty good to me. I've never tried the flavored kind. I guess it's just a matter of taste! Sorry I don't have any better recommendations for you!

Geckotoes -- Truvia contains erythritol, which is probably why your clinic yanked it. Erythritol is derived from corn starch and is a form of glucose, which is why I've always thought it shouldn't be used with HCG. But it's supposed to have zero calories, so I'm not sure what's most importantóthe calories or the actual makeup of it.

I use Truvia all the time and it's not hurting me one bit. I use Sweet Leaf Stevia, too, but I prefer a little bit - and a little is all it takes - on my strawberries. I use Stevia for my ACV cocktails.

I tried usuing quite a bit less of the vanilla cream and I like it just fine...I have to add vanilla to whatever I am using it in because by backing off the drops to avoid bitterness, I don't get enough of the vanilla taste I like.

The English Toffee one...any at all is bitter to me and I can't eat it. My husband tolerates it well, but doesn't care one way or the other. I think he has retarded taste buds!

I didn't mean that Gwendy! I meant that he has retarted taste buds and isn't even sure he can tell the difference between plain apples and those I've added the English Toffee stevia to...trust me! His taste buds are retarded.

I should send you this stuff, it cost a fortune here and I can't stand the thought of it going to waste!

I don't have the liquid Stevia, but I use the Sweetleaf brand little packets. However, it is white! Does that mean it has chlorine bleach....like some say Truvia does?
