PostSubject: SF Gum Options   Mon Aug 02 2010, 15:36

Fran asked me to post a question since she's limited on internet time at work.

"What gum chewing? My instructions say NO gum not even sugar-free. But I need it so much! Is this a real cheat or only a baby-cheat?? Why is it considered a no-no?"

I will convey the answer(s) to her. I already related the info in archives, but in case there is something more current, I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

I like chewing gum too!
But, the downside to gum chewing is...
I creates saliva for digestion and also increases the digestive acids in your stomach. If your stomach is empty (void of foods), the digestive acids begin to wear down the lining in your stomach. This is not good either.
So, I would say, excessive chewing would be bad.

On the plus side, it does help clean your teeth, expecially after eating.

Some one else may have different info, but this is what I was told.

So, if I chew gum, it is usually within an hour of my last meal.

I also suggest staying away from mint-anything gum while on hcg. Mint has been know to counteract the effects hcg, like an anecdote. Flavors to chew: cinnamon and bubblegum.

I chewed Spry gum from Whole Foods. They have many different flavors and it didn't affect my losses. I agree, though, that it can make you hungrier. I've heard people mention Steviadent also but I couldn't find it in stores.

Wendy -- OMG, mint! I never thought of that. I gave Fran some preliminary info like that, as I remembered the trouble Amber would have getting into fistfuls of SF candy and gum. Luckily, I'm not into gum much, so I probably don't have but 3-4 pieces a year. Usually it's an onion thing! Thanks for the input.

stlcakelady -- Thanks for the info! Fran lives in Tulsa, and I'm at the other end of the turnpike, near Oklahoma City. I know OKC has its first ever Whole Foods under construction, due for completion next fall or Spring 2012. I'm not sure if Tulsa would have one. Might be tricky finding these products, but at least we can do online orders.

I will forward all of this good info to Fran tonight!

Alot of the SF Gum can be found in your local health food store.

Not everyone has a Whole (paycheck) Foods near them. There is a new one that just opened up about 5 miles from my house. Glad you will be getting one near your place. It's an awesome experience. But, I never seem to leave there paying less than $100.
